Hot Springs (TERMAS)
popular hot spring resort

The northern town is spa-heaven

There are popular hot spring resorts in the Salto Region and Paysandu Region in the north along The River Plate, about 500 km to the north of Montevideo.

Unlike Japan, the bath is like a swimming pool where you bathe in a swimsuit. There are various types of hot springs such as municipal hot springs, private ones and open-air hot springs which extend to the greenery.

You can choose from the types of hot springs that are differentiated by water temperatures: 40 to 46 degrees suited for “hot” spring bathing or the lukewarm waters of 38 degrees or lower for the sheer pleasure of playing in the water.

Many tourists from within Uruguay and Argentina enjoy taking time in the lukewarm water to relax and enjoy conversation. From time to time, they get out of the pool and enjoy drinking mate tea.

You can enjoy any of the hot springs all year round, but the peak season is from March to September.
