General Information

The "Uruguay, a natural country" with a charm all its own.

White sandy beaches, naturally rich greenery, rich architectural heritage from a colonial era, rustic and pastoral landscape--- all these harmonizing into an aesthetically natural attraction.

The climate is temperate all through the year. It is a "Eco-Friendly Country" where the entire territory is covered with grass and marshlands. More than 440 kinds of wild birds exist as expressed in the name of the country "Uruguay," which was named after a bird.

Uruguay has an active livestock industry and the "gaucho" (cowboy) culture in a vast estate called Estancia is very popular (countryside tourism). You can experience being a "gaucho" in a farm where natural farming has been done for the past century, by doing "gauchos'" chores, and by enjoying gourmet cuisine whipped up from farm's production.

Uruguay is located in a zone with a climate of between latitude 30 to 35 degrees south, which is ideal for grape cultivation and wine making.

Internationally acclaimed wine is being produced with utmost care in about 300 wineries all throughout the country.

You can visit a winery and enjoy tasting some wine. You can also enjoy "asado" (barbeque) - a "gaucho" dish eaten with wine at the town restaurants.
