Located in the Itapua Department in the southeastern part of the country, it is one of the three major cities in Paraguay, and is the entrance to the Trinidad de Parana Jesuit Missions.
This city extends along the Parana River (Rio Parana), which serves as the border to Argentina. As Encarnacion is connected with Posadas of Argentina at the opposite bank by a bridge, these two cities have a considerable bond - so great is their involvement in each other’s daily lives that they do not feel like they are two separate countries.
Encarnacion International Dance Festival (Festival Internacional de Danza) held in July has a similarity with the famous Carnival of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Many professional dancers from Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay join this festival and perform their dances.
