Paraguay - the only country that exists inland in MERCOSUR.
Asuncion, the capital, is on a riverbank of the Paraguay River, a tributary of the large La Plata River.
It is the oldest town that the Spanish created along the river in 1537. They refer to it as the “Mother of Cities.”
The Asuncion Port, which was developed along a large tributary, has been the gateway for trade in Paraguay since the olden times.
The population of the city is about 510,000.
Most of the residents of Asuncion speak two languages (Spanish and Guarani, from the language of the native Guarani Tribe).
While colonial-style buildings remain in the center of the city, modern buildings are increasing, which gives the city the image of a political, cultural, and economic center with an international flavor.
