Amazon

The jungle that stretches along the Amazon River (Amazonas). Varied flora and fauna living there form an ecosystem of nature痴 abundance.
The water level rises in the rainy season, thus, it becomes an under-water jungle. The main stream and the branch of the Amazon River being intricate, the waterway is thus recommended for touring the Amazon.

With the aim of creating a development model to protect its natural resources and restore its cultural assets, the Amazon痴 natural resources and cultural assets are well preserved. Attention is being paid to the region that gives priority in securing profit for the local populace.

An eco-tour

Manaus (MANAUS)
It is a big city in the center of the vast Amazon. It flourished with the discovery of crude rubber at the end of the 19th century. It is now a base of Amazon tourism.

Amazonas Theater (Teatro Amazonas) now standing is luxuriously built with architectural material imported from Europe and attests to the prosperity at that time.
Completed in 1896, and after being renovated, the theater now seats 700. It is the venue for high-level domestic and international cultural events.


Custom House and the Floating Dock (ALFANDEGA)
It is the first prefabricated building in Brazil at 300 m in length. Since 1912, the ships that sail on the Amazon River and the Negro River (Rio Negro) depart from this pier.
The building of the custom house is on Marques de Santa Cruz Street (Rua Marques de Santa Cruz).

Eco-tour of the Amazon Jungle
When touring around the vast Amazon jungle, it is advised that you stay at a hotel in Amazon and join any of the various package tours that the hotels offer.
These tours include piranha-fishing, a crocodilian observation trip, jungle sight-seeing by canoe, and trekking in the jungle. You can enjoy the eco-experience in the jungle that seems to creep around the hotel.
The use of electricity and warm water in the hotels is limited as part of conservation efforts of the natural environment.

45 waterfalls in a town named Presidente Figueiredo, 118 km from Manaus City.


Sport fishing (PESCA ESPORTIVA)
Fishing in the jungle is an unforgettable experience for fishing enthusiasts. About 2,000 kinds of fish live in the Amazon. You can enjoy spirited fishing in the Amazon River, the Negro River (Rio Negro), and the Solimoes River (Rio Solimoes). The fishing season is from September to March.

Meeting of the Waters (ENCONTRO DAS AGUAS)
When the Negro River (Rio Negro) joins the Solimoes River (Rio Solimoes), the river waters flowing in from the left and the right do not mix. For several kilometers, the water advances seemingly with a boundary between them.
The sight of the dark-colored water from Negro River and the brown-colored water from Solimoes River flowing together is a natural beauty which you should not miss in the tour of the Amazon.

Optional tours include visiting a dance hall, watching an ethnic dance, and various shows.

Climate: The climate of the Amazon area is clearly divided into the rainy season (December-May) and the dry season (June-November). The average monthly precipitation of Manaus City is about 210 mm. During the dry season crocodilian and Capybara (a rodent that lives in the vicinity of the river) can be seen on the river bank where the water level is low.
The average annual temperature is 26 degrees. It reaches 40 degrees in the dry season in some places.
