The Ibera Marshlands (ESTEROS DEL IBERA)
The Ibera Marshlands

The Province of Corrientes (Provincia de Corrientes), northeast of Argentina, between Parana River (Rio Parana) and Uruguay River (Rio Uruguay), has large marshlands as big as 150 km long and 40 km wide.

These marshlands called Ibera means 釘rilliant Waters (Agua Brillante). Here, a wide variety of wild animals and wild birds live.



Main Attractions

The Ibera Marshlands (ESTEROS DEL IBERA)
This is a provincial sanctuary in the Corrientes Province. It is a vast marshland of about 1.4 million hectares, 14.6% of the entire province.
Wild animals such as turtles, crocodilian, monkeys, the marsh deer, and Capybara, and up to 400 bird species live there.

The Ruins of the Jesuit Missions (RESTOS DE REDUCCIONES JESUITICAS)
There are ruins of the ancient Jesuit Missions in La Cruz, Monte Caseros, San Carlos, and Santo Tome.

Fishing at the Parana River (PESCA EN EL RIO PARANA)
You can enjoy fishing in the outskirts of the towns of Esquina, Goya, Bella Vista, Empedrado, Paso de la Patria, Ita-Ibate, and Ituzaingo.

Visiting Rural Tourist Farms (ESTANCIA)
There is a package that includes staying in a ranch to enjoy trekking, horseback riding, as well as plant and animal watching.

The Chamame and Other Festivals (FIESTAS Y CHAMAME)
The festivals of Corrientes City, Esquina, and Paso de los Libres are famous worldwide for the variety of events they hold.
Moreover, this region is home to Chamame (la tierra del chamame), a popular Argentine dance. The National Chamame Festival is held every January in Corrientes City.


Shopping

Leather goods, baskets made from plant fiber, and macram knitting are popular native crafts.
