Los Glacieres National Park (Parque Nacional Los Glaciares), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located southwest of Santa Cruz Province in the southern part of Argentina. It is about 80 km from El Calafate.
More than 300 glaciers, with heights of from 60 to 80 m, exist in this area of 14,000 m². Thirteen glaciers flow into Lake Viedma (Lago Viedma) and Lake Argentino (Lago Argentino) 末 Marconi, Viedma, Moyano, Upsala, Agassiz, Bolado, Onelli, Peineta, Spegazzini, Mayo, Ameghino, Moreno and Frias.
You can view most of these glaciers if you join a package tour. The most famous one is Perito Moreno Glacier (el Glaciar Perito Moreno). |
Los Glaciares National Park

It is located at the southern end of the Andes. It is the third biggest glacier zone in the world after Antarctica and Greenland. North of the park is the impressive Mt. Fitz Roy at 3,405 m above sea level a beautiful and majestic peak.

Perito Moreno Glacier (EL GLACIAR PERITO MORENO)
Perito Moreno Glacier is a huge lump of ice, about 4 km wide at the tip and about 60 m high.
There is a package tour that takes you on a ship that sails between blue and white pieces of drifting ice in the Lake Argentino. Aboard these ships, you can see the glacier up close.
Activities
In general, mountain-climbing, trekking while enjoying the view of Cerro Torre and Mt. Fitz Roy, glacier-climbing, rafting, kayak, and horseback riding, etc.
Sport fishing, such as trout fishing, is also possible on lakes and rivers.

By bus:
There is no direct bus service to El Calafate. From Buenos Aires City to Rio Gallegos (about 36 hours), and then to El Calafate (about four hours)

The most suitable time for sightseeing is summer from December to March. During this period, the highest temperature is 19 degrees and the lowest is -1.8 degrees. |
